The Patel Comics: Bringing Ancient Stories to a New Generation
Share
Every generation needs its heroes. For today’s kids, that often means Spider-Man, Black Panther, or Elsa from Frozen. But what about Rama? What about Durga? What about Hanuman, who leapt across the ocean with nothing but courage and devotion?
That’s where The Patel Comics comes in.
We started with a simple mission: to re-imagine Indian mythology in a way kids growing up in America—and around the world—could enjoy. For Indian American families, that means bedtime stories with pictures that look like the stories your parents once told you. For teachers, it means introducing diversity in the classroom through colorful characters and epic adventures. For kids, it means having comic book heroes who reflect their culture.
Our comics are written in English for accessibility, with Hindi editions for families who want to stay closer to the original roots. The storytelling is simple enough for children to follow, yet layered enough that parents can enjoy it too. We re-tell classics like the Mahabharata and Ramayana, but also highlight lesser-known gems like the tales of Savitri or the Panchatantra animal stories.
Representation matters. When kids see heroes who look like them or share their traditions, it builds confidence and pride. A little girl reading about Durga doesn’t just see a goddess; she sees strength, resilience, and leadership. A boy reading about Ganesha learns that wisdom and kindness are as heroic as any superpower.
At The Patel Comics, we believe mythology isn’t a relic of the past. It’s a gift for the future. By turning these ancient stories into vivid, page-turning comics, we’re keeping the flame of culture alive while making it exciting for the next generation.
